Stephen King
The next call you take could be your last in this terrifying #1 New York Times bestseller by master storyteller Stephen King!On October 1, God is in His heaven, the stock market stands at 10,140, most of the planes are on time, and graphic artist Clayton Riddell is visiting Boston, having just landed a deal that might finally enable him to make art instead of teaching it. But all those good feelings about the future change in a hurry thanks to a devastating phenomenon that will come to be known as The Pulse. The delivery method is a cell phone—everyone’s cell phone. Now Clay and the few desperate survivors who join him suddenly find themselves in the pitch-black night of civilization’s darkest age, surrounded by chaos, carnage, and a relentless human horde that has been reduced to its basest nature...and then begins to evolve. There’s really no escaping this nightmare. But for Clay, an arrow points the way home to his family in Maine, and as he and his fellow refugees make their harrowing journey north, they begin to see the crude signs confirming their direction. A promise of a safe haven, perhaps, or quite possibly the deadliest trap of all…

"My husband gave me this book for Valentine's Day last year.....and I was VERY excited to read it being a forever diehard Stephen King fan. He did not disappoint me at all with this book......it was gruesome gore and quirky humor and intense stress from page 3 until the end. The story was pretty depressing and sad.....considering the fact that all mankind can be wiped out by a pulse sent thru cell phones. If you are into zombies.....searching for a beloved child........intense frightening situations.....and quirky humor when you least expect it.....then you will love this book!"
"I binged this book in a little over a day - probably the fastest I've ever read this many pages so it's definitely fresh in my brain! King's return to straight-up horror after finishing the Dark Tower series and The Colorado Kid. Cell definitely lets it be known King's feelings towards cell phone usage and that type of technology. Interesting that while reading this book I decided it was a good time to start another 30-day social media block, and sure enough, I finished the book quicker than ever. I actually thought it was a pretty interesting story, if it did veer off the deep end at times, it kept me engaged and interested in the characters."
"Cell was the first Stephen King book I’ve ever read, so I’m partial to it on nostalgia alone. That being said, I also love his short story “The Long Walk”, which he originally published under his Richard Bachman pseudonym. "
