June Farrow lives a simple life working the farm her family has run for generations in a small town in North Carolina. The women in their family also suffer from a curse. One that the town gossips about as it seems to drive them mad. Especially mysterious is that her mother had it and 7 months after she was born, she disappeared forever leaving her grandmother to raise her.

Determined to stop this from plaguing the family further, she decided to never get in a serious relationship and never have children. She also held back from her grandmother and her closest friend that she had been having “episodes” like both her mother and grandmother had for a year. It’s been eating her alive not knowing what happened to her mother and she was determined to find out. It wasn’t until her grandmother passed away that she admitted to her friend and her grandmothers best friend what was happening. because she received mail from her grandmother just days after she passed away. It had photographs of her mother. One before she disappeared, then one with the man she knew as the father she never met but that was dated much to old for it to be real. How could her mother be in both photos looking the same age? Did it have anything to do with the strange visions she was having? Is it related to the strange door that she keeps seeing?

It came for my grandmother, as it came for my mother, and it had come for me.

She decides to open that door to see if she can piece together the mystery of her mother, and their family and once in for all what lay behind this door. Instead of a simple explanation of what happened to her mother, she is met with several more questions. Most importantly, why she was sent there and why did she ever leave?

June is thrown into a life that will not only change both the past and the future, but start to make those strange visions make sense and what she was willing to do for the ones she loves most.

This was a very fast read. I tried to pace it as it was a readalong with The Nest (bookish app) so I held off as much as I could to try and follow with everyone else. I finished it two days early because I just couldn’t help it. I needed to know what happened!!!

This story was mysterious, heartbreaking and sweet. True love knows no bounds in this time warp riddled family. I enjoyed this very much.
