"I read it but... Doesn't look like I'll be reading the next one. In my opinion, I think the entire concept of the series could have been better developed if it had been from Collum's perspective; the freshly rebooted Rico who was actually poor and did manual labor, pinned as the weakest reboot in several years, and finding himself intrigued by the supposedly emotionless one-seventy-eight.

More interesting yes?

I think the greatest issue with the book was that because I was reading from Wren's perspective, I tried so hard to stay in her emotionless state of mind, which is the exact opposite of what you want readers to be doing as an author.

(SPOILERS)

Best friend dies? No tears. Collum's parents reject him? No tears. Officers boss them around? No anger. Electric fence? Bullet wounds? No pain. Sad backstory? No sadness. Escape plan? (A rushed one btw) No anticipation. No nothing. I'm pretty sure I wore my resting bitch face the entire way through the book which is no Bueno.

Also, the reboot revolution, introduction of the disease, I feel like this historical set up was rushed, something the author tried to get out of the way. BUT IT'S A GOOD IDEA. BE PROUD OF YOUR DYSTOPIAN, DEVELOP IT ******* IT. The lack of explanations for how everything came to be is one of the main reasons I don't move past book one of a dystopian series.

Next on the list is the love interest. One day she's an emotionless soldier. A roommate of 5 years never once breaks through. Then a smiling boy makes her realize she really does feel and makes her realize she cares about her roommate and maybe she should feel guilty about killing people. Did you read that. Out loud. Are you seeing the problems with this. Again, maybe if it was from Collum's perspective and we got to see this happening to her from the outside and understand her in a different way, it probably would have gone better. Maybe a LOT better. Seriously POV is so important.

Would i recommend this book? No. There's a million books out there, you can find something better.

In any case, Happy reading!"

"This book has it all, and it was so much fun to read. Washed up teen heartthrob, David Crader is now a twice divorced sober alcoholic who owns a bar and has dreams of rebooting Rev Beach, the teen drama he starred in. While in LA for a convention he is whisked away by the daughter of his old producer, who also happens to have been his co-star and ex-wife. She wants to give him the reboot of his dreams, but first he must go to New York to convince his on-screen brother to agree to the whole thing. The story is jam packed with crazy online fandoms, disgruntled co-stars, cults, fish-faced cryptids and the storm of the century. It serves millennial nostalgia on a silver platter and makes you feel like you watched Rev Beach on the WB just before the new episode of Buffy. David just feels like someone you used to follow in teen magazines and all the supporting characters add the right amount of spice to this book. The plot is kind of bonkers, but in a good way. It manages to capture everything about our current era in a fun and creative manner. This book is perfect for people who have ever looked back on their lives and wanted- if even for a minute- to hit reset. This book was made for fans of Buffy and Supernatural."
"Overall had an okay execution, mid characters. Loved the premise but I was confused about was how the mc was supposed to not be fully human but she definitely had human qualities and emotions…? "
