When social services jeopardize her safety condemning her to keep her father’s secret, it’s a glass of spilled milk at the dinner table that forces her to speak about the cruelty she’s been hiding. In her pursuit for safety and justice Brooke battles a broken system that pushes to keep her father in the home. When jury members and a love interest congregate to inspire her to fight, she risks losing the support of family and comes to the realization that some people simply do not want to be saved.

"Where to start without being a total a**-hat? This was an interesting and worthwhile story to be sure. Based on true events I have to believe that most of this happened in some shape or form. It was appalling to see a rape victim suffer even after they are free of the abuser. Having to tell their story multiple times. Your own flesh and blood not believing you or blaming you for things. I honestly couldn't imagine it. No wonder why many victims don't come forward. Not only do you have to go to court and tell the world your most intimate and embarrassing secrets, but you also get to be called a liar by the defense.

So unfortunately while this was something that needed to be told it was done so in a dairy-like manner. Very blunt and without inflection. I'm guessing it was self-published which really brought down the overall quality of the story. It lacked vocabulary or structure. I couldn't feel for the characters. What made it worse was that the Author also narrated the audiobook. Any other time I would praise this. Especially in fantasy. Imagine hearing the tones and inflection exactly how they imagined them. That was not the case. It was mostly monotonous.

So again very blunt. There was little character development. The change of scenes wasn't smooth. The author didn't detail the unsettling parts too much which I appreciate immensely. And geez the ex-boyfriend was a piece of sh*t but so much so it was a little difficult to believe. In short, I just could engross myself in her story. It was too choppy and written like a first-time writer."
