The main character, Sam, remains snarky and sick of the fresh supernatural happenings in his life while maintaining a desire to survive that naturally pushes the plot forward and allows him, and the reader, to learn about the new world of supernatural beings. Smart dialogue and natural-feeling world building keeps the story from stagnating in its slower moments and a menacing villain keeps it engaging in its faster ones. Overall, this is a cleanly told story with likable yet realistic characters, wit, modern magic, a plot that moves along, and a chilly touch of death to ensure that things stay interesting."
