"I was excited to find a book that infused two of my favorite things: history and ghosts. I admit it was the Civil War that got me interested into History as a kid and it is these type of stories I always tend to enjoy reading. The plot was intriguing to me: girl’s family makes a move to a famous haunted location to open an old bed-and-breakfast they bought, girl meets ghost, ghosts asks to help solve his murder.<br/><br/>I had only two problems with this book: Lori’s character and the sudden “I’m in love” scenario. I have noticed that the latter seems to be a trend appearing in many, many young adult books. Whatever happened to taking it slow and letting nature take it’s course? Having the characters fall in love so quickly, makes the romance feel unrealistic and forced. As for Lori’s character, she seemed flat and I couldn’t find a connection with her whatsoever. I understand she was unhappy with her move away from her friend. I went through that phase many times in the past but that was due mostly to growing up as an army brat.<br/><br/>I did love Nathaniel and his secretive past. I enjoyed it more as we learned what exactly happened with him. This was what made me read the rest of the book. I wanted to know why he was killed and what he needed to finally rest in peace. <spoiler>I know Lori hurt after he was gone but she did have a hot lawn guy who would pick up the pieces of her broken heart.</spoiler> I can only hope that their romance grows slowly.<br/><br/>This book was okay. I just wish the author had given Lori’s character a bit more depth and had slowed the relationship down a bit. Otherwise I think I would have enjoyed this story a bit more than I had."
