"This book is nice...but it's most definitely a book from a different era. Laney's lie to keep her job, Deke's insistence upon marriage, and the nice and pretty wrapped-up-with-a-bow way that they handle Laney's mental instabilities are almost insulting. It's hard to look at this book objectively because aside from it's ridiculously archaic language and mannerisms that are exhibited between characters, it panders to one of my weaknesses. And that's the only reason it got 2 stars. "A classic love story," not so much."
