Ray Bradbury
The summer of '28 was a vintag season for a growing boy. A summer of green apple trees, mowed lawns, and new sneakers. Of half-burnt firecrackers, of gathering dandelions, of Grandma's belly-busting dinner. It was a summer of sorrows and marvels and gold-fuzzed bees. A magical, timeless summer in the life of a twelve-year-old boy named Douglas Spaulding--remembered forever by the incomparable Ray Bradbury. "Bradbury is an authentic original." -- "Time"

"This book is only about 200 pages long....yet it took me WEEKS to read it.....*sigh* It actually is a really charming little book and Ray Bradbury has an amazing talent for describing things so well that you can actually 'smell' the fresh cut grass and 'hear' the dogs barking etc. It is a collection of short stories about a boy named Doug and his family and the adventures he has in the summer of 1928. The stories are quite delightful and often funny.......with a few mystery pieces here and there. I guess I just wasn't in the mood to read this book for if I had been I would have finished it in a day and would have had a much better review for it."
"Dandelion Wine, in a collection of vignettes takes us on the adventures of 12 year old Douglas Spaulding with his 10 year old brother Tom. Along the way, we also meet the residents of Green Town, Illinois in the Summer of 1928.

At times magical and heartbreaking, exciting and charming. You'll love every page of this book! It reminds me not only of the summers of my youth, but stories of the summers of my grandpa's youth, who grew up in this era. This book will definitely have a permanent place on my shelves and on my list of all-time favorite books."

"Beautifully nostalgic imagery, transportive storytelling, and a bittersweet innocence fading into the unavoidable maturation of thought. These fascinating small town characters will make an impression on your heart and mind if you let them; particularly if you give yourself up to the thoughts of the satisfyingly insightful protagonist. An incredible insight into the author's philosophical mind and truly unique imagination. Now it only I could bring myself to read the sequel... "
