In the year 2513, the only thing higher than the seas is what’s at stake for those who sail them. Rose was born facing due north, with an inherent perception of cardinal points flowing through her veins. Her uncanny sense of direction earns her a coveted place among the Archipelago Fleet elite, but it also attracts the attention of Admiral Comita, who sends her on a secret mission deep into pirate territory. Accompanied by a ragtag crew of mercenaries and under the command of Miranda, a captain as bloodthirsty as she is alluring, Rose discovers the hard way that even the best sense of direction won’t be enough to keep her alive if she can’t learn to navigate something far more dangerous than the turbulent seas. Aboard the mercenary ship, Man o’ War, Rose learns quickly that trusting the wrong person can get you killed—and Miranda’s crew have no intention of making things easy for her—especially Miranda’s trusted first mate, Orca, who is as stubborn as she is brutal.

"This book had so many twists and turns, each chapter had me on the edge of my seat! It was a perfect balance of gore and intense scenes! The soft scenes pulled on my heartstrings and I can’t stop thinking of them. I loved the enemies to lovers, then back to enemies then back to lovers trope. Ahh such a great book and the spice was 👌👌 I also loved the “dark” apocalyptic feel it gave! The characters were all so lovable too! I highly recommend this book!!"
"I think in the end, this book's biggest sin is that it's too long. I spent the whole thing kind of annoyed that nothing was happening and all the characters (and the extremely silly romance) seemed so stagnant, only to see all of the action and character development happen in the final 20%. There were some neat ideas here but I didn't really enjoy the read that much."

"This was such an amazing book!! Everything about it was great especially the pirate lesbian romance. The characters were all so well thought out and felt real. Also lots of character development on top of that, this was definitely one of those books that I could see just as well as a movie. The plot was so well thought out and packed with twists which totally brought the story to life! All in all a super fun read I would definitely recommend to anyone who likes pirates, fantasy and lesbian books!! "
"When I discovered this book it was a part of a tag "books like Arcane (Netflix series)", so that's how I see this book. Fantasy/Scifi. Action. Political subplot. Unapologetically sapphic. But the fact this was never on a pirate tag is criminal. You hear me? Criminal. Futuristic pirates/naval themes are so hit or miss for me. But this is *chef's kiss* Try this for some scifi that doesn't drag you down with worldbuilding. "
"I couldn't put this or the sequel down. The archs for some characters are long game, taking place over both books, but this makes sense with the story as the protagonist gets to know each character better. For me this series is less about the sapphic love, and more about the politics and action the drives the story forward. "
