NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ∙ A professor of literature finds herself caught up in a work of fiction . . . literally, from the New York Times bestselling author of The Seven Year Slip and The Dead Romantics.Eileen Merriweather loves to get lost in a good happily-ever-after. The fictional kind, anyway. Because at least imaginary men don’t leave you at the altar. She feels safe in a book. At home. Which might be why she’s so set on going her annual book club retreat this year—she needs good friends, cheap wine, and grand romantic gestures—no matter what. But when her car unexpectedly breaks down on the way, she finds herself stranded in a quaint town that feels like it’s right out of a novel . . .Because it is.This place can’t be real, and yet… she’s here, in Eloraton, the town of her favorite romance series, where the candy store’s honey taffy is always sweet, the local bar’s burgers are always a little burnt, and rain always comes in the afternoon. It feels like home. It’s perfect—and perfectly frozen, trapped in the late author’s last unfinished story.Elsy is sure that’s why she must be here: to help bring the town to its storybook ending.Except there is a character in Eloraton that she can’t place—a grumpy bookstore owner with mint-green eyes, an irritatingly sexy mouth and impeccable taste in novels. And he does not want her finishing this book.Which is a problem because Elsy is beginning to think the town’s happily-ever-after might just be intertwined with her own.

"3.5⭐
I was really looking forward to this book, but it just didn't quite live up to my expectations. It was fun enough and I loved the plot in theory, but it was pretty slow paced and it ended up falling a bit flat. I liked the main characters, but it felt like their relationship was very rushed. The storybook town was so cute, and I really liked so many of the side characters! It was unique and very cozy, so I did enjoy it! I'm glad I read it, I just didn't love it as much as I had expected to. Magical realism, an adorable small town, grumpy x sunshine, forced proximity, and slow burn. If you're a fan of Ashley Poston then you'll probably enjoy this book! "
"This was a unique and fun idea that definitely had promise. Eileen is transported into the small town of her favorite book series. Any book lovers dream! I appreciated the whimsical feel that I’ve grown to love about this authors style and the clever details in regard to the town, the people in it and how her presence put a ripple in their world. I did feel confused by aspects of the ending but overall a sweet read with relatable life takeaways. "
"This book is charming, lightweight, & unique, huge creativity points to the author!! I've read a lot of love stories, but none quite like this one, which I loved. The characters were relatable & lovable, and the story kept me wondering what direction it would go in. This is a must read for fellow rom-com lovers! "
"4.5: this was such a cute and surprising read every second of this. Wish I could be able to go into my favorite books but guess not"

"I was so close to giving this book 3 stars because I was SO ****** OFF right before the ending, but Ashley Poston saves the day of course by writing a perfect happy ending. Ashley’s books are so unique and original, and I LOVE that. All 3 books I’ve read of hers are nothing like I’ve ever experienced before. This was such a whimsical and fun story. I mean come on actually being able to visit the town of your favorite book? A dream."
"I was really excited for this book about being in your favorite book, but was a bit let down! I also LOOOOVED seven year slip so i think I had high expectations. I definitely felt immersed in the world of Eloraton and loved how magical and bookish it was, but didn’t love the main plot and characters."
