"Am I upset that this is a prequel rather than a sequel? Yes. Did I love it any less? A little but not by much. It was fairly easy jumping back into this world. It's set roughly 500 years before and again we follow multiple povs who have a big role to play in saving the world. Unfortunately, we still don't get enough time with the dragons as I would like. But at least we do get to greet an old friend.<br/><br/>Honestly, this would make such an amazing show. The visuals it conjured were breathtaking. Gorgeous world-building. Really it was just as great as the first book even though I think I connected with Ead most of all and missed her very much. Still, I saw her in the eyes of another and that was beautiful too. Definitely got more choked up this time around. I was cursing this book one minute and praising it the next. So much so that my husband said it was like being on an emotional rollercoaster while listening to me rant haha.<br/><br/>All in all an amazing second book. Nothing was taken away. It still held all the glory the first book held and that surprised me quite a lot seeing as how they are both over 800 pages. To be so consistent is an art in itself.<br/><br/><br/><br/>Favorite scene:<br/><br/>'Should we be throwing away one of our most treasured artifacts?'<br/>'Ez, it's a weapon. It was made to be thrown.'<br/>'I know.' Esbar gave it a forlorn look. 'It's just... such a beautiful spear.'<br/>'Honour it with a beautiful throw.'"
"I enjoyed this book more than the first. However, I did feel as if a lot of it was spent rehashing what we learned in the first. I was worried about Thrit...so glad he lived to a happily ever after. I felt like there was more action in this book and some riveting battle sequences. There was a lot of representation for all orientations as well. Looking forward to the 3rd installment eventually."
"It is a mammoth of a book to read through … and albiet it did have its slow parts BUT to any worthy reader this book will reward you by its end. "

"I listened to this book because I found out it was the prequel and wanted to "read" it before I read my physical copy of Priory. I'll be completely honest the first probably 15-12% of the book was super hard for me to wrap my head around.
It's a lot of different places, characters, and perspectives to get a grasp on right away. To me it felt like I couldn't get a connection with the characters or different backgrounds they came from until later in the book but that got better the deeper I got into it. This is a struggle I had at the start of reading Priory as well, though I didn't get very far into Priory before listening to the prequel so I think I shouldn't struggle as much when I get into it with the background I have now.
As the book continued I was able to sort it all out and felt a bigger connection with the characters and better understanding of the world and story line. It was just tough to hang in there for the first part but the rest of the book was phenomenal and I can't wait to get into the next book. "
"This book is a slow read, something to digest slowly and imagine in full capacity. At first I was turned off at the idea of reading a romance (not a fan), but this book is not as romance centered as people make it out to be. It's a long, beautiful fantasy looking into the lives of many characters. "
