Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell's provocative new #1 bestseller -- now in paperback. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a pebble and a sling-and ever since, the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he? In DAVID AND GOLIATH, Malcolm Gladwell challenges how we think about obstacles and disadvantages, offering a new interpretation of what it means to be discriminated against, suffer from a disability, lose a parent, attend a mediocre school, or endure any number of other apparent setbacks. In the tradition of Gladwell's previous bestsellers-The Tipping Point, Blink, Outliers and What the Dog Saw-DAVID AND GOLIATH draws upon history, psychology and powerful story-telling to reshape the way we think of the world around us.

"I really enjoyed myself with this book because as usual for Malcolm Gladwell’s writing, he’s able to seamlessly connect what on the outside appears to be irrelevant topics together and make them relevant to each other. The chapters I most enjoyed/found most interesting were about college admissions (ie. big fish in a small pond versus small fish in a big pond) and the chapter about the “Troubles” in Northern Ireland.

The chapter about the inverted u-curve was fascinating as well because I’m dying to know who the unnamed Hollywood actor was that Malcolm talked about their childhood and how it differed drastically from his own. Also in that particular chapter, it seems even today that governments and policy experts are still debating the merits of small class sizes for students."

"I’d have to say Part 1. Gives great perspective of the benefits that come with being the underdog, which are instrumental in overcoming that status"

"Hmmm that’s hard. I think I have multiple favorite books. Hard to pick 1 bc nonfiction & fiction are so different."
