"Jaka's Story is probably the Cerebus volume that impressed me the most, but it is also one of the most depressing points of the story. The gorgeous art and well-planned story structure makes it a memorable experience, but like most volumes in the series, parts of it won't make much sense to people who have not read the story up to that point. Luckily, the story up to that point is largely pretty good stuff if you like indie comics. Most of the "rougher"/harder to recommend parts of Cerebus come after Jaka's Story."
