And no killer or abductor who has stalked the highway has ever been brought to justice.Hailey McBride calls Cold Creek home. Rumors spread that she was taken by the highway killer—who’s claimed another victim over the summer. One year later, Beth Chevalier arrives in Cold Creek, where her sister Amber lived—and where she was murdered. "Cold Creek is a town where many girls go missing or killed. Hailey, who is 17, parents died and she is staying with her aunt and disgusting uncle who is a cop of Cold Creek. She discovers videos of naked girls from Cold Creek on her Uncles computer. He has his cameras everywhere. She decides she has no other choice but to run-away. She has help from a friend and began living in the woods for a year.

Soon after Hailey disappeared her friend Amber showed up dead off the Highway. Hailey knows her Uncle is the killer, but doesn’t know who to trust with this information.

Amber’s sister decides to visit and do her own investigation of her sister’s death and Hailey’s disappearance.

I loved this book, and I thought I had the ending figured out. But nope I was wrong. Filled with twists that kept me on my edge of my seat. Plus, apparently in Canada there is a Highway of Death, that many women go missing or murdered!"
"Not a fan of ‘wilderness survival’ stories and this one dragged on and on to the point where I almost DNF’d"

"The characters are so three dimensional that I felt as if I was standing there watching as the story played out. This is another amazing story by Chevy Stevens I highly recommend to anyone.I hope the real killer of the girls of this story based on fact is caught and prosecuted.Prayers to those who are still among the missing."

"Hailey McBride lives in the small town of Cold Creek. At a young age she lost her mother and later her father. She moves in with her aunt Lana, cousin Cash and her police officer husband, Vaughn. Vaughn is an overbearing, controlling authoritarian. Hailey shared a close and trusting relationship with her father so these new stricter rules of Vaughn's make her uncomfortable.

While trying to adjust to her new life Hailey discovers a disturbing secret and decides to run away. She plans to survive in the wilderness using the skills she learned from her father to hide out and hoping that people believes she's been taken by a killer who everyone believes is responsible for the missing girls in their area.

Shortly after Hailey leaves her friend, Amber also goes missing and is later found murdered. One year later Amber's sister, Beth comes to town for a memorial and stays hoping to find out what really happened to her sister.

I have been a Chevy Stevens fan since I picked up Still Missing. I wanted to love Dark Roads, but it fell flat. This story had the potential to be a great one, but in an effort to throw the reader off until the very end we spent a lot of unnecessary time focusing on characters whose motivations were never fully understood. It was a decent read, but not one of her best."
