The prospect of spending Christmas with her perfect sister Sofia, in Sofia’s perfect house with her perfect children and her perfectly ordered yuppie life does not appeal.Frankly, Sofia doesn’t exactly want her prickly sister Carmen there either. But Sofia has yet another baby on the way, a mother desperate to see her daughters get along, and a client who needs help revitalizing his shabby old bookshop. So Carmen moves in and takes the job.Thrown rather suddenly into the inner workings of Mr. McCredie’s ancient bookshop on the picturesque streets of historic Edinburgh, Carmen is intrigued despite herself. The store is dusty and disorganized but undeniably charming. Can she breathe some new life into it in time for Christmas shopping? What will happen when a famous and charismatic author takes a sudden interest in the bookshop—and Carmen? And will the Christmas spirit be enough to help heal her fractured family?

"A warm holiday book to curl up with. Don't forget the cocoa!"

"3.75 star

My second book from this author. While both are wholesome, grab at your heart reads there is still nothing so memorable that it sticks with you months later. Although I do enjoy Colgan's slow burn romances. The lovey dovey parts don't always take center stage, which let's you get to know your protagonist on different levels and I very much appreciate that.

The family dynamics were very relatable between the siblings. Both had faults, both were jealous of the other. The arcs were nice and true to the Christmas season. I also like when an author throws in a couple characters so it's not completely obvious who she will end up with.

The bookstore owner was a great addition to the story. He gave more depth and a wholesome ending. All and all enjoyed this one."
"I’m not sure this book knew what it wanted to be. Was it a love story, coming of age book or family drama? We have an aimless floundering women, a snooty and uptight sister, precocious children, tree like student man, eccentric shop owner, jaded self-help author, nazi baby daddy, witches, a bitchy nanny and so many more. There were moments of humor and warmth that were endearing. However, this book felt much longer than it needed to be- weighed down by too many story lines and not enough cohesion. "
"Dnf. I've read two other books by Jenny Colgan and they were much better. The romantic plot lines were believable and you actually rooted for the characters in those, but not this one. I can't tell you a single quality of the main character other than her sarcasm, and when she does meet her love interests I have no idea what she likes about them, just that she likes them. It also dragged in a strange way- the story takes place over just a few weeks, yet every chapter took it's grueling time. Just read the Bookshop on the Corner and pretend it's Christmastime instead."

"It's a simple, but warm read. It was a good one to read when i didn't want anything deeply cognitive or heartbreakingly emotional. Yet it left me feeling thankful for relationships i have, thoughtful toward my own shortcomings and insecurities, and eager to travel and soak up new sights and places. :D"
