The tale is as old as time: a cruel prince is transformed into a beast. A lovely maiden comes into this monsters life. He is transformed by her compassion, and the love he feels for her in return. The two live happily ever after. But any tale, especially one as storied as Beauty and the Beasts, has been told many different times, and in many different ways. No matter which version one hears, the nagging question remains: what was it that transformed the prince into the beast we are introduced to?

"Okay so I made a mistake and can’t seem to read these books in order, HOWEVER: this is the second book in the Disney Villain Series. This focuses on the Beast and how he became the Beast. I like this book because it doesn’t just say the Beast refused to let an “old hag” in his castle and that’s why he was cursed, it gives him a backstory as to just how horrible a person he was. In addition to that, it also made his transformation into the Beast a process, him and his servants were not instantly turned whenever they were placed under a curse. So you are taken through the Beasts anger and his unwillingness to see the truth for what it is. This is honestly one of the better villain books I’ve read so far. This book focuses on the before-math of who the Prince was and how basically he was the same as Gaston but he had a title. He thought he was too good, he felt like people tricked him for his status. He felt like the love of his life should be a bimbo, just to find that he needed someone to challenge his believes so he could reach his potential. This isn’t to glorify the Prince, however out of the Villains he actually got his happily ever after by learning from the mistakes. This book does have feelings of self sabotage, meddling, of course lesson learning. I say definitely check this book out if you like Disney villains "
