"This is a brilliant book for the right person, but it is not for me. Besides the beginning, it didn't read like a story at all. It was more like a dissertation. Swaths of time were skipped over, and each chapter was chopped into segments. I didn't feel like a part of the story. Instead, I was an outsider. Each sentence was a discussion or a theory, so there was no emotion to connect with the characters.
When Ellie was a child, I was intrigued by the direction this was taking. Then she grew up, and the writing became dry. The discovery was empty because no real conclusion was drawn. There were a few brilliant ideas in the story, and I liked how it wrapped up, but I felt no substance.

"I'm not any more skeptical about your religious beliefs than I am about every new scientific idea I hear about. But in my line of work, they're called hypotheses, not inspiration and not revelation.""
