Anda loves Coarsegold Online, the massively-multiplayer role playing game that she spends most of her free time on. It's a place where she can be a leader, a fighter, a hero. It's a place where she can meet people from all over the world, and make friends. Gaming is, for Anda, entirely a good thing. But things become a lot more complicated when Anda befriends a gold farmer -- a poor Chinese kid whose avatar in the game illegally collects valuable objects and then sells them to players from developed countries with money to burn. This behavior is strictly against the rules in Coarsegold, but Anda soon comes to realize that questions of right and wrong are a lot less straightforward when a real person's real livelihood is at stake. From acclaimed teen author Cory Doctorow and rising star cartoonist Jen Wang, In Real Life is a sensitive, thoughtful look at adolescence, gaming, poverty, and culture-clash. "This is a graphic Novel/Manga. Middle grade?

I enjoyed this book, I'd even read it again. Though, I was hoping for a little more than the internet is dangerous and you never know what anyone is going through. I'm also slightly confused by the mixture of lessons this book is meant to teach you. Don't talk to strangers on the internet, but it's okay if you are trying to help them. Many strangers take advantage of people trying to help them on the internet these days, I wasn't sure if the boy she was helping was going to turn out to be some old man asking for money or something. He was a gold farmer. Also, I'm confused on if this is meant to be child labor? the kids seem very young, but it's okay... as long as he gets health care? Am I missing something? I read this in 10 minutes, so it is possible.

The Illustration was very cute, I loved the video game world, the people she meet are very sketchy and don't seem like she should be friends with them. But, the story was cute.

Altogether, it was okay. Would I recommend this? No, probably not."
""In Real Life" by Cory Doctorow follows teenage girl Anda who joins a online RPG game because of a speaker coming to her school who's gaming world changes when she befriends a gold farmer who turns out to be a poor Chinese Kid.

I would give "In Real Life" by Cory Doctorow a 3 star review because, this novel address alot of themes that not alot of people think about and I enjoyed the artwork but the novel felt rushed at the ending and it seemed more like a teacher giving a lecture."

"I think this is another graphic novel that has a great message behind it. The only reason I didn't score it higher is because once you get into the plot line is kind of predictable. Which honestly it's a young adult graphic novel with a message. That is pretty normal for it to be predictable. I think it is a very wholesome story and I really like the idea of girl power and standing up for what is right. Anda's family makes me kind of grin, because as a mom I totally understand being concerned about my child being a part of the online community. I love that her mom is great at being protective but understanding a kid needs to be a kid."
