They will be joined by others whose deeds will determine their fate. It is a beginning.Their stories will intertwine and evolve over the course of two thousand years. They will meet again and again at different times and in different places. From Palestine at the dawn of the first millennium and journeying across fifty countries to a life among the stars in the third, the world will change around them, but their destinies remain the same. It must play out as foretold. From the award-winning author of The Heart’s Invisible Furies comes A Traveler at the Gates of Wisdom, an epic tale of humanity. The story of all of us, stretching across two millennia. Imaginative, unique, heartbreaking, this is John Boyne at his most creative and compelling.

"While the story of family, love, loss, and revenge is not unusual, Boyne’s method here of picking up the story and setting down in another place and time over and over makes it uniquely intriguing and enables him to touch on historically significant characters and events (no matter how unlikely, still fun surprises). You’ll get the hang of the transitions after the first couple of moves. "
"Interesting concept falls completely apart at the end. Love the author – I'm a Boyne fan – but don't waste your time on this one."

"Boyne writes a beautiful story that encompasses views of life throughout the millennia. His writing sucks you in and places you right in the story…until the next-to-the-last chapter. The jump from 1961 to 2016 reads like the drunk ranting of a Facebook troll!!! His political slant on the election doesn’t even make sense in the scope of the book. He could have chosen better material. It completely ruined the book for me. "
