"My continued migraines meant that I listened to this on audiobook 🎧 which was very well done with 2 readers (one male and one female) with great different voices for all the characters. To its credit it did keep my interest throughout & I listened to it in one sitting. However, I felt there was a lot of telling not showing in parts and a lot of parts that could have been streamlined. This book has an interesting premise of beginning at the end (although at this point we don’t know who lives or dies until the penultimate chapter) after gathering these 4 members of a high powered business firm under the guise of competing in an escape room challenge that ends up trapping them in an elevator. (The book alternated between chapters called “The Elevator” which detail the 4 colleagues in an elevator’s supposed Escape Room which were more thrilling/ & chapters titled Sara Hall, an up and coming post graduate student beginning with her hiring by this firm.) These chapters were more character driven, slower & at times lengthier yet I sometimes enjoyed these more because I learned more about Sarah (who has likable qualities) as well as the other 4 characters but other times these chapters frustrated me because they slowed down the book’s momentum. Like any psychological thriller one must suspend one’s disbelief (& this one more than most at times) but it all adds up and as more misdeeds, secrets and lies pile up, it doesn’t seem too far fetched with these particular 4 unlikable characters in the business world. These 4 are locked in the elevator and the main plot/ thriller (a la Lucy Foley’s The Guest List) is more gratifying because you see them go after each other trapped in the confined space of the elevator and not more innocent people. So many secrets revealed in that elevator!! I thought The Escape Room was certainly a good escape on audio 🎧 especially with a migraine ⭐️⭐️⭐️1/2"

"i very much liked how this started, but it dragged out and became predictable. i didn't finish, but i did decide to read about the ending and my suspicions were confirmed. i think this story should have beem shorter and there are long periods of over explaining. dialogue was not well written and it was very much on the nose. "
"I finished this gem yesterday and really enjoyed it. I felt that the characters were developed well and each had their own distinctive personalities. I loved the whole idea of these people being locked together in an elevator while their secrets start coming out.... their secrets from life as well as how they've screwed each other over. It was great!"
