Named One of the Best Thrillers by the Washington Post "Possibly my favorite of Pinborough's yet, and that's saying something. It's an absolute rollercoaster of a ride: twist upon twist, expertly handled. I actually gasped out loud several times. So atmospheric and sexy... A triumph!" -- Lucy Foley, New York Times bestselling author, on Dead to Her In this mind-bending thriller from the bestselling author of Behind Her Eyes, Emma Averell worries that her sudden insomnia is a sign that she's slowly going insane--like the mother she's worked so hard to leave in her past, soon to be a series on Paramount+ In the dead of night, madness lies... Emma Averell loves her life--her high-powered legal career, her two beautiful children, and her wonderful stay-at-home husband--but it wasn't always so perfect. When she was just five years old, Emma and her older sister went into foster care because of a deeply disturbing incident with their mother. Her sister can remember a time when their mother was loving and "normal," but Emma can only remember her as one thing--a monster. And that monster emerged right around their mother's fortieth birthday, the same milestone Emma is approaching now. Emma desperately wants to keep her childhood trauma in the past, but as she stops being able to sleep, she also can't stop thinking about what happened all those years ago. Is the madness in her blood? Could she end up hurting her family in her foggy, half-awake state, just like her mother? Or is there another explanation for the strange things that keep happening around her? Emma must unravel the dark strands of her past to protect the people she loves... or risk losing it all, including her sanity. Unsettling and utterly addicting, Insomnia is a heart-pounding thriller that will have you up all night.

"Emma Avril, Successful Lawyer, wife to Robert and mother of 2 is getting close to her 40th birthday.
She has been dreading turning the big 4-0 and starts to go off the hinges with traumatic memories of her mother going psychotic just as she herself turned 40. Emma starts recalling the moments witnessing her mothers breaks and nearly killing her older sister Khloe. The counting of repetitive numbers, sleepless nights, losing track of time, blacking out, paranoia and the voices in her head.
Following Emma's obsessive patterns throughout the book really starts to mess with your mind. What a psychological thriller! Trying to decide whether Emma is really losing her mind, or who could possibly be messing with her. Annoying at times! A quick read, twisty and clever plot."
"This one of the best psychological thrillers I have ever read. I read this book in one day! I couldn’t put it down. So many twists and turns. I never knew what was coming next. Each chapter left me wanting to know more. I definitely enjoyed this and would recommend to anyone wanting a great thriller."
"A mind-bending novel of paranoia, revenge, and questioning everything you think you know. Through blackouts and explosive conflicts, we see the fragility of trust under stress, in others as well as in ourselves. We see how easy memories can be influenced, how difficult it is to let go of vengeful thinking. This novel features a number of twists and is overflowing with tension; a solid choice for bookclub. "
"It’s no secret that your 40th birthday tends to be synonymous with the point you are officially OLD! Emma, has feared her fortieth birthday because her mother went mad that day and attempted to kill her sister. The insomnia kicks in a couple weeks before her birthday and nothing she takes helps her sleep. She is following in her moms footsteps. She is losing time and the police are now questioning her about murder and other malicious behaviors toward her children. She needs to figure out if she is the danger but she also feels there is an outside threat involved.

A lethal combination turning 40 and not being able to sleep.

This was a slow to mid paced thriller for me. I enjoyed the plot of the story. However, I don’t think it was the most original shocking twisted ending like her other book, Behind Her Eyes.

Thank you NetGalley and WilliamMorrow for my gifted copy"
