"This is not a bad movie, but you need to have a particular interest in military fiction and documentary (as I do) to find it interesting, let alone enjoyable. The first time we learn there will be anything interesting in it is past the 30 minutes mark, and the interest is decidedly not sustained throughout after that. I do not mean that there is not enough action, as this movie is not an action flick. It is a military drama, and that is something I usually enjoy, the more so if it is well made. There is just nothing great or very good in this movie, and a few things are plainly bad. There are many better movies with the same core story. The Yellow Birds is far, far below Full Metal Jacket. "
