Four friends from a sleepy little village in Punjab share a common dream: to go to England. Their problem is that they have neither the visa nor the ticket. A soldier alights from a train one day, and their lives change. He gives them a soldier's promise: He will take them to the land of their dreams. What follows is a hilarious and heartwarming tale of a perilous journey through the desert and the sea, but most crucially through the hinterlands of their mind.

"Really liked this film overall. Even if the screenplay needed polishing and the film doesn’t reach the heights of 3 IDIOTS, it nevertheless manages to be heartfelt with a mix of dramatic and comedic touches, exploring reasons why people move to other countries and a look at circumstances that can drive people to desperate measures. Fantastic cinematography, score, makeup effects, and especially performances from the cast (with Shahrukh Khan effectively serving as the film’s emotional and narrative anchor and Taapsee Pannu also giving a strong performance (Vicky Kaushal also stands out memorably in a small role)). A solid (even if imperfect) addition to Rajkumar Hirani’s filmography."

"Overall I really liked this film, it shows the trials and tribulations of the Dunki, how many immigrants risk their lives for a better life for themselves, their families, and their loved ones in a foreign land. And even with arriving they still face hardships, having to take small jobs whenever they can, live in a broken house with other people in the same situation, having to hide from the cops, etc. The Dunki journey was already heartbreaking but it's even more heartbreaking that the place they went to doesn't even acknowledge they exist, nor give the same opportunities they would give other people. When they returned to India it was super heartwarming and emotional especially at the end of the movie 😭. I liked that the director added pictures at the end to show that this is reality for many people and for a lot they have gone through a Dunki."
