"“The Taste of Things” was very painfully drawn out, even for those that are sophisticated lovers of food, wine, and culture. What goes into these meals is nothing short of amazing, but this movie suffered from a lengthy run time and lack of plot. It stayed focused in on meal preparation far too frequently. And the meals erred on the side of too rich and unappetizing, a far cry from the beloved, impassioned romanticism involved in cooking in “Like Water for Chocolate.”
The love story, however, endured against the test of time and was the most interesting, dynamic aspect of the story that really stood out and shined. The intensity that goes into cooking was also felt. I could intuit the blood, sweat, and tears poured rigorously and precisely into each and every meal. I just wish that everything else, apart from what I’ve already said, wasn’t so bland and uninteresting when this palate desperately craved something more rich and satiating to enjoy."
